Adult ADHD Clinical Nurse Specialist / Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Non Medical Prescriber)

NHS Borders is seeking an experienced and motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) or Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) to join our Adult ADHD pathway. This is a key clinical role, supporting adults with ADHD across the Scottish Borders through high quality, person centred care.

Part time: 2 days per week. Fixed location: Across all Scottish Borders localities.

The postholder will primarily undertake annual ADHD reviews, including autonomous medication reviews and prescribing, working closely with CMHTs, Primary Care, pharmacy, and medical leadership. There will also be some involvement in the assessment of ADHD presentations for adults with co morbid mental health needs who meet CMHT criteria, with scope for role expansion as the service develops.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver annual ADHD reviews for adults across all Borders localities
  • Independently review, adjust and prescribe ADHD medication in line with national and local guidance
  • Monitor treatment effectiveness, side effects, physical health and risk
  • Provide psychoeducation and support around medication adherence
  • Maintain clear communication with GPs and other professionals
  • Manage an autonomous caseload and maintain high quality clinical records
  • Provide specialist ADHD advice and consultation to colleagues
  • Contribute to service development, audit and quality improvement

Essential requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RMN or RN Adult)
  • Clinical Nurse Specialist or ANP level experience within mental health or neurodevelopmental services
  • Independent Non Medical Prescribing qualification (V300)
  • Significant post registration mental health experience
  • Ability to work autonomously across multiple sites
  • Full driving licence and access to a car for work purposes

Desirable

  • Experience in adult ADHD assessment or treatment
  • Experience running nurse led clinics
  • Involvement in service development or quality improvement work
