Job Description
Position
The position involves developing and maintaining a high standard of nursing care, with responsibility for managing both patient care and the care environment in the absence of the senior nurse. The post-holder will share responsibility for resource management, leadership and education while on duty, ensuring safe and effective service delivery.
Working as part of the Macmillan multidisciplinary team, the post-holder will contribute to the delivery of evidence and research based care, demonstrating leadership and providing guidance to junior nursing staff. They will work in partnership with colleagues to ensure patients, their relatives and carers receive a consistently high standard of care, delivered in line with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and all relevant local and national health and safety requirements.
The role also requires ongoing development of clinical expertise, alongside responsibility for the teaching, supervision and assessment of student nurses and junior or unregistered staff, particularly when taking charge of a shift.
Candidate
The candidate will be a UK NMC registered nurse with effective listening and interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with patients, families and colleagues. They will have strong time management skills, enabling them to prioritise workload and deliver care efficiently within a busy clinical environment. The successful candidate will also be able to meet the full range of criteria outlined in the job description, supporting safe, effective and high quality patient care.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NHS Orkney.
