Job Description
Support Workers
2 Support Worker/Driver required. Hours and sleepovers are scheduled in a 4 week period: 3 24 hour shifts per 4 week period on a working rota (days will change). You will also be requested to cover for staff holidays and sickness. Additionally, 4 24 hour shifts per 4 week period are available.
Rate of Pay: £13.45 per hour for all hours worked.
Qualifications
- Previous experience or training in working with young adults with extra support needs (desirable but not essential).
- Driver with a clean driving licence (essential).
- Flexibility to be part of a good working team.
- Successful applicants will be required to undergo the New PVG Disclosure; the employer will pay the fee. If you leave within the 6 month probationary period, the cost may be recouped from wages.
- Car insurance (including business insurance) may be required if using own car.
Responsibilities
The young man is 28; has extra support needs; may use a wheelchair; lives in his own tenancy in Dundonald with a Support Team. Confidentiality and respect for his privacy and daily routine is paramount. Tasks will vary according to his needs.
Personal Tasks
- Assistance/reminding to take medication.
- Help with showering, bathing, drying himself.
- Assistance using the toilet (may include changing pads).
- Assistance with eating and drinking, including cutting up food. The young man has a soft diet and may need some foods liquidised.
Personal Appearance
- Assistance with shaving, dressing, oral hygiene, foot care, drying, and hair styling.
Household Tasks
- Cooking and preparing meals, sandwiches, and drinks.
- Keeping the kitchen clean and tidy; mopping floors.
- Household cleaning, including bathroom and bedroom.
- Laundry and ironing.
- Changing bedding and bedding in the staff room.
- Dusting and hoovering.
General Tasks
- Assisting with local shopping.
- Reporting faults with equipment to family.
- Light household maintenance, e.g., changing light bulbs, using appropriate equipment such as ladders.
Social Activities / Outings
- Assisting with cinema, theatre, swimming.
- Going to clubs, e.g., Disco Monday night or Wednesday various clubs.
- Assisting with appointments, going to shops.
- Meeting friends/family.
- Assisting with leisure activities, going out in the evenings, short walks.
Driving
- Driver must have a full clean driving licence.
- May be required to accompany the young man on holiday (paid).
Benefits and Terms
Wages are paid every 4 weeks in arrears by BACS transfer.
There are 5.6 weeks paid annual leave attached to this post.
Annual leave is discussed at interview.
There is a 6 month probationary period. A 1 week notice within this period if things are not working out.
