Job Description

Property Manager

The Burn is a 20-bedroomed Mansion House, Listed Grade B belonging to Goodenough College. The estate consists of a beautiful woodland oasis, with the spectacular North Esk river running through a natural landscape. Although it operates mainly as an academic retreat for mostly international and Scottish university post-graduates, it is also hired out for private, family celebrations and offered as holiday accommodation.

The Burn seeks a Property Manager who will be responsible for arranging and undertaking regular maintenance to ensure that buildings are safe, operational, and compliant with regulations and good practice. You will work alongside the Housekeeping Team to action minor repairs to maintain high levels of guest comfort while preserving the historic fabric of the properties. A key part of this role is supervising and monitoring both planned and reactive contractor works, ensuring effective communication with the Estates Department based in London and maintaining high standards of workmanship.

You will also be tasked with maintaining a safe, organised, and well-stocked storage area for all necessary equipment, tools, and materials, enabling efficient completion of minor repairs. You will manage a small departmental budget, providing regular reports on procurement and performance. You will undertake the role of Lead Fire Marshal and Health & Safety Officer for the Burn. This involves providing effective support and direction to all staff and volunteers, participating in the rota for on-call residential staff to provide 24-hour security and fire response cover, and managing operational health and safety procedures to maintain a safe working and living environment.

You must have demonstrable experience of managing facilities and building maintenance, including the organisation of maintenance tasks, supervision of contractors and ensuring relevant regulatory compliance. You should also possess experience in Health and Safety, fire safety and incident management.

You must be able to provide current evidence of the right to work in the UK.

The deadline for applications is 30th August 2024 and interviews will take place at the Burn on the 6th and 9th September 2024. Applicants are encouraged to contact the Bursar or the Estates Team for further information and to visit the estate
