We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our Perth team and play a vital role in securing future projects by producing accurate and competitive tender submissions. Working as part of our Pre-Construction team, you’ll collaborate with colleagues across the business to support the successful delivery of bids, helping drive the continued growth and success of I & H Brown.

overview

As an Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates and tender submissions for civil engineering and construction projects. Working as part of the Pre-Construction team, the role supports the successful delivery of bids by evaluating project information, identifying commercial risks and opportunities, and liaising with internal teams, clients and the supply chain. The Estimator plays a key role in helping secure new business while ensuring tenders are completed accurately, on time and in accordance with Company procedures.

key responsibilities

  • To carry out pricing of all tenders under your control and allocation in line with Company Estimating Procedures
  • To check all tender information and highlight any discrepancies to the client in time to fulfill the tender requirements.
  • To assist the other Estimators and assist the Bid Manager, Directors and Contracts Managers with pricing tenders and all associated tender submission work
  • To assist the Contracts Managers and Site Agents with subcontract orders and contractual correspondence.
  • Review new contract conditions and pass on information regarding these.
  • To assist in preparing methodologies and programmes
  • To assist with internal reporting and forecasting.
  • Evaluate primary risks, opportunities, and commercial aspects related to tenders and other business prospects.
  • Participate in tender settlement meetings, mid-tender interviews, site visits, and post-tender discussions as required.
  • Obtain all necessary quotations required in the preparation of tender submissions.
  • To assist with reviewing and commenting on tender documentation during tender period and, if successful, handover.
  • To carry out and assist in the preparation of quantities when required.
  • To assist in the submission of pre-qualifications and other “non price” tender documentation.
  • Contribute to fostering positive relationships with clients and the supply chain.
  • To ensure the Company’s Quality and Environmental Management System and Health & Safety at Work documentation and procedures are being effectively implemented and maintained throughout the Company.
  • To effectively supervise and manage such staff and other resources as may be under your control.
  • To carry out general system administration duties in line with the estimating procedures.
  • To assist in looking for new markets and opportunities in line with the business strategy.
  • To keep contact and add contacts for future and current works.
  • Responsible for collation and management of standard information filing systems.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of contract, tender and pre-qualification files.
  • To provide administrative support as and when required.
  • To attend specific training courses arranged by the Company.
  • To ensure documentation is processed and ultimately filed for reference purposes.
  • To provide statistical information as and when required.
  • To carry out such other duties as may be ascribed to the post from time to time

Skill, knowledge, and experiences

  • Experience within a civil engineering or construction estimating environment.
  • Good understanding of tendering and procurement processes.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and contract documentation.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and work to strict deadlines.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience using estimating software (including Candy or similar systems).
  • Knowledge of NEC and other standard forms of contract.
  • Understanding of Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety management systems.
