The role:

An opening within the RAH Neonatal Nursing Team at Paisley. The Neonatal Unit provides Level 2 care to patients and their families within Greater Glasgow and Clyde areas and collaborates with other Neonatal Units to provide Level 3 care.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will provide generic and specialist educational support and direction to nurses and healthcare support workers within the Neonatal service. The post holder will develop, facilitate, deliver and evaluate educational programmes, meeting the needs of neonates, their families and nursing staff. You will work with clinical personnel to promote, deliver and enhance high-quality evidence-based learning that provides excellent standards of care.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

  • Location based in Royal Alexandra Hospital
  • Full-time position (37 hours per week)
  • Permanent contract

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and initiate educational programmes to meet the needs of individual nursing staff within the Neonatal Service at RAH to develop their skills and learning.
  • Work one-to-one with staff to ensure adequate skills are developed and maintained for all nursing staff in the RAH Neonatal Service; establish a preceptorship relationship with staff.
  • Assist in implementing new frameworks, policies and protocols in the RAH Neonatal service.
  • Utilise a competency-based assessment framework appropriate to the range of specialities within the neonatal service.
  • Plan, deliver, monitor, evaluate and maintain a competency-based Corporate and Acute orientation/induction programme for all newly qualified graduate nurses and nurses new to Neonatal Service.
  • Support the band 7 Senior Charge Nurse team in introducing, facilitating and evaluating a competency-based framework.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required

Essential

  • 1st level Registered Sick Children/Child branch nurse or relevant Adult branch/midwifery qualification
  • PgCert Neonatal Qualification in Speciality
  • Minimum 7 years post-neonatal-specific qualification experience
  • Previous mentorship/teaching experience
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to positively influence and motivate staff
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to implement and monitor standards of care
  • Ability to plan, implement and manage own workload

Desirable

  • PgCert Education Qualification
  • Masters degree in Nursing or Education
