The role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Care of the Elderly for a highly motivated individual to work as a Charge Nurse. Ward 8A is a 28-bedded Acute Assessment Unit for the Elderly, caring for some of the most dependent and vulnerable patients with a wide range of medical conditions and clinical needs.
You will lead, implement and evaluate standards of good nursing care, ensuring high-quality patient care at all times. You will be responsible to the Senior Charge Nurse (SCN) for clinical guidance and professional management and will deputise for the SCN as required.
All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Location: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
- Work Pattern: 12-hour rotational shifts
- Hours: – 36 hours per week
Key responsibilities:
You will lead and manage the nursing team, promoting high standards of care while ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality patient care in line with the CAS standards framework. The role involves supervising both qualified and unqualified staff, supporting their development by ensuring appropriate learning opportunities are in place and encouraging best practice across the team. You will deputise for the Senior Charge Nurse when required, maintaining effective organisation and clear communication within the team. In addition, you will contribute to education, audit, and continuous improvement activities, while supporting the implementation of relevant policies, procedures, and national targets.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Live NMC UK pin (essential requirement)
- Substantial experience at Band 5 level within a relevant setting
- Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills
- Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development
- High level of IT skills
- Good understanding of relevant policies, procedures, and national targets
- Willingness to develop leadership and managerial skills
