About The Role
We are recruiting for Casual Transition Mentors to join our Supported Accommodation programme in South Ayrshire.
Supported Accommodation South Ayrshire aims to support the local authority’s goal of reducing levels of repeat homelessness by providing a high quality housing support service in Ayr. The Casual Transition Mentor will provide ongoing support and be a positive role model for young people, helping them access opportunities, engage positively in their communities through social activities and inclusion, promote a positive social network, and encourage engagement with friends and family as appropriate.
Shifts are offered on an ad hoc basis and is a good opportunity to work around other commitments or if you are studying a relevant subject.
Responsibilities
- Provide on going support and act as a positive role model for young people who are involved with the Service.
- Be the key person to support young people to identify, plan and achieve their life goals using a range of person centred and holistic approaches.
- Support young people to access opportunities to engage positively within their communities through social diversionary activities and inclusion, promote a positive social network and encourage engagement with friends and family as appropriate.
- Work directly with young people to gain their trust and to support them to engage in learning experiences that promote their educational attainment, academic qualifications, self confidence, independent living skills and resilience.
- Promote active and responsible citizenship, including being a responsible tenant.
- Monitor and record to a high level of detail and accuracy the assessment and progress of young people supported in the service; produce and present reports as requested, relating to individual young people’s progress.
Qualifications
We’re looking for someone who has an understanding of what people are going through when facing homelessness and how this affects their day to day lives. You will have a compassionate nature, be non judgemental, be willing to learn, and be an excellent communicator able to build trusting relationships with the young people we support. You should have a desire to access relevant training and development opportunities and possess good IT and keyboard skills.
Shift Times
- 2 pm – 10 pm
- 10 pm – 8 am
- 4 pm – 12 pm
What You Can Expect From Us
- Report to the Deputy Project Worker.
- Hours will be ad hoc and infrequent; you will work for Right There at times and on days agreed between you and Right There.
- Core place of work: 42 Chalmers Road, Ayr, KA7 2JQ.
- In accordance with the Working Time Regulations, you are entitled to be paid for annual leave: 6 weeks in a full annual leave year. Payment for annual leave is calculated based on 13.04% of your total pay in a pay period and will be paid in addition to wages accrued for that month, including if you leave your position at Right There partway through a pay period.
- Casual workers are assessed and enrolled into a pension if they meet the auto enrolment criteria.
