The Role

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will assess care needs, develop care programmes, implement and evaluate these programmes, and ensure the delivery of high quality care to patients.

The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and may demonstrate procedures to, and supervise, registered and / or unregistered staff as well as student nurses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain effective communications with patients, relatives and members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure appropriate information is shared and patient needs are met.
  • Apply knowledge of all relevant National and Local policies, legislation, procedures, PREP, etc.
  • Work within and adhere to the defined National policies, procedures, standards and protocols of the Ward, Directorate and Division.
  • Be fully compliant with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and other relevant guidance documents.
  • Organise own and more junior staff workload and utilise time management skills to ensure that patients/clients interests are met.

  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC Registration.
  • Excellent team working skills with the ability to work independently and initiate action.
  • Effective listening, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Basic working knowledge of information technology.

Working hours

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part time working hours will be reduced on a pro rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
