Responsibilities
- Execute agreed planned and corrective maintenance tasks on shift and actively improve maintenance processes.
- Log work in the CMMS, capturing faults, defects, parts used and time spent.
- Maintain the asset inspection and maintenance programme, ensuring compliance with safety statutory legislative requirements and industry best practices.
- Follow SOPs to guarantee first time quality, returning equipment to production to correct engineering standards.
- Assist the maintenance coordinator and leads in prioritising work orders.
- Recommend preventive maintenance improvements and spare parts requirements to maximise asset availability.
- Support plant optimisation initiatives and liaise with external suppliers/contractors when required.
- Participate in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement processes relevant to maintenance excellence.
- Maintain work areas to 5S standards, ensuring a safe and effective condition for maintenance workshops and peripheral engineering/satellite areas.
- Monitor and contribute to relevant team KPIs such as losses, OEE and preventive maintenance programme achievements.
- Identify and engage in training opportunities to support personal development and productivity improvements.
- Work flexibly, including overtime if required, maintaining high levels of self motivation and performance standards.
- Collect and analyse root cause data for site performance improvement projects.
- Respond promptly to troubleshooting and emergency breakdowns, carrying out emergency repairs and ensuring production targets and quality standards are met.
- Make key adjustments to production equipment to maintain smooth operation of the lines.
- Support line changeovers with the operational team and implement improvements to increase process effectiveness.
- Report health and safety issues, adhering to site EHS requirements and escalating unsafe or environmentally unsound acts and conditions to the supervisor for remedial action.
Skills & Experience
- Mechanical – sound mechanical fitting techniques and skills; excellent understanding of pneumatic circuits, technical drawings and fault finding.
- Diagnostic – experience diagnosing faults in mechanical drive systems (v belts, pulley drives, chain drives, conveyor belts, gear boxes, bearings, shaft wear).
- Pumps – knowledge of pumps, pump sets, packing and mechanical seals.
- Control valves – understanding of valve philosophy and valve repair.
- Machine tools – competent use of turning, milling and welding tools.
- Packings – depth of knowledge in maintaining rotating and cyclical packing machines.
