Planning Services Manager – Overview

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Planning Services Manager to lead our friendly team of Treatment Planning Dosimetrists at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre (NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde). The post is within the Radiotherapy Physics department. The successful candidate will manage the treatment planning workflow in a busy and dynamic environment, oversee and contribute to the advanced radiotherapy treatment plans that directly impact cancer patient treatment. The post holder will drive quality and service improvements and line manage dosimetrists and support staff in treatment planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the treatment planning workflow within the Radiotherapy Physics department, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of plans.
  • Lead and develop the team of Treatment Planning Dosimetrists, providing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design, review and optimise advanced radiotherapy treatment plans (VMAT, IMRT, SABR, TBI, DIBH, gating, HyperArc, RapidPlan, etc.).
  • Champion quality and service improvement initiatives, translating clinical outcomes data into actionable changes.
  • Maintain current knowledge of clinical physics, industry developments and regulatory guidance in radiotherapy planning.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Registered Clinical Technologist, HCPC registered Therapeutic Radiographer or Clinical Scientist.
  • Demonstrated experience in a planning workflow environment using Varian products (TrueBeam, HD MLC, Ethos) and Eclipse TPS.
  • Strong communication, organisational and leadership skills.
