Job Description

As an Apprentice you will be given the opportunity to work with highly skilled individuals and develop competencies across the fitting, testing and machining functions in the factory, determining the most efficient order to carry out tasks and identifying the correct tool and equipment for each stage of the process.

You will be trained to perform checks that ensure your work meets the technical and quality standards required.

During the programme you will develop the ability to work from engineering drawings and technical data to produce a variety of products and components used primarily in the power and energy industry.

You’ll learn how to maintain equipment and develop health and safety awareness throughout the program to support the business objectives.

These positions are part of a full Modern Apprenticeship programme, leading to the attainment of SCQF Level 5, SCQF Level 7 Vocational Qualifications and Academic qualifications NC and HNC in an Engineering Discipline. Upon completion, successful candidates will achieve fully qualified Engineering status.

GENERAL SUMMARY

As an Apprentice, you will work closely with highly skilled individuals and gain experience across fitting, testing and machining functions. Your role involves determining efficient task sequences and selecting appropriate tools and equipment.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete a 4 year internal apprenticeship training programme.
  • Attend college and complete all assignments and examinations to obtain the relevant qualifications.
  • Earn the SCQF qualification in collaboration with the education provider.
  • Conduct and present a variety of engineering projects related to your training throughout the apprenticeship.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Expected to hold National 5 grade passes at level C or above in Maths, English, a Science subject (preferably Physics) and a Technical subject; higher grades are an advantage.
  • Willingness to learn and take on new, challenging responsibilities within the business.
  • Commitment to completing a four year Apprenticeship scheme.

  • Good communication skills, including the ability to work well with others.
  • Effective personal organisation and time management skills.
  • Willingness to undertake training to improve skills and commit to a four year programme of study.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Capability to multitask and work in a deadline driven environment.
  • Practical approach to tasks, tidy, and self motivated.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Required daily to stand, sit, walk, talk, hear, and see (specific close vision abilities are required to perform computer work).
  • Required occasionally to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Required daily to use hands, fingers and arms to reach (to operate a computer and telephone).
  • Required occasionally to lift and/or move objects that are light to moderate.
  • Required occasionally to travel (usually by air or road, so may be required to sit for extended periods).

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to work with moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone, and printers).
  • Ability to work in an open planned office / individual office.
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods.
  • Ability to sit in a car or on a plane for extended periods.
