The Crofting Commission is responsible for regulating the crofting system and promoting the interests of crofting to ensure its future sustainability. This new role will sit within the Legal and Regulatory Support Team which is primarily responsible for providing legal advice and guidance to the wider Commission, dealing with appeals against Commission decisions to the Scottish Land Court, administering the Commission’s scheme of Delegation decision making, preparing responses to complex casework and procedural queries, issuing procedural guidance and preparing materials and delivery training to both Commission and SGRPID staff.
The Crofting Regulatory Support Officer is a new role within the Commission and will include supporting the Commission solicitor and other team members in undertaking the tasks associated with the implementation of the Crofting and Land Court Bill currently going through parliament, with a particular emphasis on the changes which will impact upon the Commission’s Duties Enforcement processes and related applications/notifications, liaising with colleagues from the Commission’s Residence and Land Use Team (RALUT) who are the team responsible for duties enforcement. This will involve participating in identifying and implementing the changes required to our current forms, associated documentation, procedures, guidance etc to deliver the changes brought in by the new Bill. The role will also involve participating in the delegated decision making process; drafting grounds for complex casework decisions; and providing support to the solicitor and other team members in the range of tasks involved in providing legal and regulatory support to the wider Commission.
The role will require the postholder to hold a good knowledge of crofting legislation and have experience of the Commission’s casework processes and procedures.
