Job Description

As an Electrical Installation Apprentice, you’ll take part in a structured training programme designed to build your skills and competence in electrical installation, maintenance, inspection, testing and associated activities. You’ll work under the supervision of experienced engineers while studying towards industry-recognised qualifications through the SJIB approved framework.

This apprenticeship combines academic learning with hands on experience, giving you the opportunity to develop a successful career in the electrical industry.

Key Responsibilities

As an Electrical Installation Apprentice, you will take part in a structured training programme combining academic study with practical, hands on experience. Under supervision, you will progressively develop competence in:

  • Low voltage (LV) electrical installation work
  • LV electrical maintenance tasks
  • Inspection and testing of electrical installations
  • Facilities maintenance activities
  • Supporting electrical activities within the marine sector

This apprenticeship follows the SJIB approved framework and includes block release training at Tullos Training Campus or another approved centre.

Minimum Entry Requirements

  • National 5 (or equivalent) in Maths, English, and a Science subject
  • Eligibility to enrol with Tullos Training Campus or an equivalent training provider
  • Ability to commit to the full duration of the apprenticeship programme
  • Willingness to travel to training locations and work sites as required
  • Genuine interest in building a career within the electrical industry
  • Commitment to completing both practical and academic elements of the programme
  • Reliable, responsible and able to follow instructions
  • Strong focus on safety and working to procedural standards
  • Good communication and problem solving skills

Training and Qualifications

During the apprenticeship, you will work towards:

  • SVQ in Electrical Installation at SCQF Level 7, including:
  • Installing enclosures, cables and wiring systems
  • Commissioning electrical systems and equipment
  • Identifying and rectifying electrical faults
