Service Manager – HR Operations Band 8A: £65,125 to £70,303 per annum The Role
NHS Lanarkshire is seeking an experienced and driven HR professional to join our HR Operations team as Service Manager – HR Operations. This is a senior leadership role with real scope to shape how we deliver HR advisory and case management services across one of Scotland’s largest health boards.
Reporting to the Head of Human Resources – Operations, you will lead a high performing HR Operations team, ensuring a responsive, consistent and customer focused service that supports NHS Lanarkshire’s workforce needs. You will bring together operational excellence, continuous improvement and strong stakeholder engagement to deliver an HR service that is fit for the future.
As the service manager you will provide visible, values based leadership to the HR Operations team, setting clear objectives, managing performance and ensuring delivery against agreed KPIs and service standards. You will act as the senior escalation point for complex, sensitive or high profile employee relations cases including disciplinary, grievance, dignity at work, capability, attendance, ill health retirement and organisational change and maintain robust governance and reporting across all casework.
Working closely with HR colleagues, senior managers, clinical leaders and Trade Union and Professional Organisations, you will support effective workforce decision making and build the constructive relationships that underpin a fair and consistent HR service. You will also provide specialist leadership for Medical and Dental employee relations, ensuring compliance with national frameworks including MHPS, professional standards and regulatory requirements.
Continuous improvement is central to this role. You will lead on developing end to end HR Operations processes, applying best practice, streamlining ways of working and using HR systems and data to enhance both quality and customer experience.
Additionally, you will provide authoritative advice on Terms and Conditions of Service across all staff groups including Agenda for Change and Medical & Dental contracts, leading on the interpretation and implementation of national pay circulars and resolving complex contractual issues to mitigate organisational risk.
You will be educated to degree level and hold Chartered Membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) or an equivalent postgraduate qualification. A commitment to ongoing professional development, ideally towards or at master’s level, is expected.
You will bring demonstrable experience in a senior HR role within a large, complex organisation, with highly specialist knowledge of employee relations and employment law. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as are strong leadership qualities including political astuteness, intellectual flexibility, personal integrity and a collaborative approach to partnership working.
A full, valid UK/EU/EEA driving licence is required.
