Job Description
The Grounds person and Landscaper works with the Golf team on the upkeep of the estate and grounds, garden areas and ensure they always look well maintained and continue to exceed the expectations of our members, guests, and visitors. A very varied hands on role and under the direction of our Director of Agronomy you preserve, maintain, and enhance the outdoor spaces and estate’s natural landscape.
You will care for and manage the landscape to maintain the health and appearance of our grass, trees, and plants. Ensure their health, safety and aesthetic appeal and combine your practical skills with a deep understanding of arboriculture and environmental conservation. You take part in our development and the implementation of our long term sustainable plan. People are our priority you support the wider team across Taymouth Castle Golf and Sport Club and Glenlyon Estate.
Discover the role
Develop and implement grounds maintenance requirements, which include regular inspections to assess the health, stability and signs of disease, or damage; ensure the grass, trees and plants thrive. Conduct pruning, trimming, and shaping to promote healthy growth and desired aesthetics.
We do the right thing and follow the correct procedures; ensure they are followed in the use of all machinery, all hand tools fertilisers, and pesticides. Prepared and ready to assist with hard and soft landscaping projects and the preparation of ground, paving, simple construction, grubbing out, planting; includes trees/shrubs and other general landscaping operations as and where needed.
You deliver first class garden maintenance work together with the estate team to ensure the upkeep of garden structures, such as fences, trellises, compost areas, and other areas, as and when required.
Collect and maintain accurate records of the health and condition of the gardens, surrounding areas and environment; maintenance activities; treatments performed, and growth patterns observed in surrounding areas and estate environment making recommendations for appropriate interventions to the Director of Agronomy. Supported by regular photography and documented in a monthly report.
Navigate mobile applications to report and record tasks. Good written, verbal, and interpersonal and computer skills with the ability to interact with all levels of staff and management. Action and maintain all garden associated RAMS (Risk Assessment Method Statements), COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) and MDS (Model Development Specifications).

Each day is different and you can be based at various locations throughout the estate. You will need good physical fitness and stamina to perform tasks requiring heavy lifting and physical exertion as well as working in challenging terrain in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, and wind.

The ability to work under pressure to juggle competing priorities with minimum supervision. You can adapt accordingly to suit the profile of the business and can adjust working days and hours of work to meet business needs, as and when required and during emergencies or busy seasons.
Previous landscaping experience in the same or a similar role and/ or estate environment and the ability to identify common diseases and pests; forward thinking vision of landscaping. Ability to read and review reports, risk assessments and standards operating procedures. Full UK driving licence – You will be required to travel between locations.
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 or above in horticultural qualification or equivalent.
- Vocational qualifications relevant to the role including PA1, PA2 and PA6A spraying certificates.
