A Houston-based technology company specializing in advanced downhole measurement and drilling data acquisition systems. The organization designs and manufactures high-reliability MWD/LWD tools and supporting surface systems for harsh drilling environments. The company is actively expanding its engineering team to support next-generation product development.
Position Summary
The Senior Electrical Engineer will be a key contributor within a multidisciplinary engineering group, responsible for the design, development, testing, and sustaining of high-temperature downhole electronics. This role requires strong technical expertise in power electronics, motor control, and embedded system hardware design, with a focus on reliability, manufacturability, and performance in extreme operational environments.
Key Responsibilities

Lead design and development of downhole electronic assemblies for MWD/LWD tools, including high-temperature and high-shock environments.

Develop power supply, motor control, telemetry, and sensor interface circuits from concept through production release.

Perform schematic design, component selection, circuit simulation, and PCB layout oversight using industry-standard tools.

Build and evaluate prototypes, performing detailed bench and environmental testing.

Create, execute, and document verification and qualification test plans to ensure product performance and durability.

Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, firmware, manufacturing, supply chain, and test engineering teams.

Support root-cause failure analysis, reliability improvements, and sustaining engineering for existing product lines.

Prepare engineering documentation including requirements, technical specifications, design reports, and test documentation.

Participate in design reviews, DFMEA sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

Minimum 7-10+ years of professional experience in electronic hardware design.

Demonstrated experience developing electronics for downhole oil & gas tools (MWD/LWD) or other high-temperature mission-critical environments.

Strong knowledge of power electronics, including DC/DC converters, motor drivers, and energy management circuits.

Proficiency with electronic design and simulation tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD, PSpice, PSIM, MATLAB).

Hands-on lab experience assembling and testing prototypes, using oscilloscopes, analyzers, etc.

Ability to interpret and apply environmental, reliability, and manufacturing constraints into designs.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with embedded systems integration and digital signal interfaces.

Familiarity with sensor conditioning, telemetry systems, or high-temperature semiconductor technologies.

Experience coordinating with contract manufacturers and PCB fabricators.

Knowledge of reliability engineering and downhole qualification test methods (thermal cycle, shock/vibe, etc.).
