Health and Safety Advisor Construction & Housebuilding

Location: Based in Ayrshire, with regular travel across Central Scotland
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

A well-respected contractor specialising in affordable housing projects across Scotland is currently seeking an experienced Health and Safety Advisor to join their team on a permanent basis. This role is based in Ayrshire and will involve regular travel to various construction sites and offices across West, Central, and East Scotland.

This is a key position within the business, where you will be instrumental in promoting and maintaining a positive health and safety culture. You will provide competent and practical advice, guidance, and support on all matters relating to health, safety, and welfare across a wide range of residential construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote a positive, proactive health and safety culture across all areas of the business
  • Assist in the development and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of construction sites and offices
  • Support the preparation of Construction Phase Plans and other pre-construction documentation
  • Lead or support investigations into accidents, incidents, and cases of occupational ill health
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of health and safety compliance
  • Identify potential hazards and risks, and implement effective mitigation strategies
  • Promote and monitor safe working practices across all sites
  • Coordinate and deliver health and safety training programmes
  • Oversee the safe installation, maintenance, and operation of work equipment
  • Keep abreast of developments in health and safety legislation and industry best practices

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a health and safety role within the construction or housebuilding sector
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor and influence others
  • A proactive and detail-oriented approach; able to work both independently and collaboratively
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation and regulatory obligations
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Work Wallet is desirable
  • Familiarity with ISO certification processes is advantageous
  • NEBOSH General Certificate and/or Construction Certificate (minimum requirement)
  • IOSH membership, ideally CMIOSH, or working towards this level
  • Additional qualifications such as the NEBOSH Fire Certificate or an environmental qualification are desirable
  • A full, clean UK driving licence is essential due to the travel requirements of the role
