Job Title: Senior Quantity Surveyor

Location: Glasgow

Job Overview

Support the commercial delivery of EPC projects, focus on NEC contract and subcontract administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial & NEC Contract Management: Lead the commercial and contractual management of EPC projects under NEC contract forms, ensuring compliance with contract conditions and commercial best practice.
  • Administer NEC contracts, including early warning processes, compensation events, change control, and risk reduction meetings.
  • Manage upstream and downstream contractual obligations, ensuring alignment between head contracts and subcontracts.
  • Subcontract Administration: Prepare, administer, and manage subcontract agreements, ensuring robust commercial control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assess subcontractor payment applications, variations, and compensation events in line with contract requirements.
  • Monitor subcontract performance against commercial KPIs, budgets, and programme milestones.
  • Cost Management & Forecasting: Provide accurate cost control, reporting and forecasting from project award through to final account.
  • Track costs against approved budgets and maintain reliable cost and cashflow forecasts.
  • Support the preparation of commercial reports, cost analyses, and financial summaries for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Tendering & Procurement Support: Support tendering activities, including cost estimates, risk and contingency allowances, and commercial input into bid submissions.
  • Assist with subcontract procurement, tender evaluations, contract negotiations and supplier cost assessments.
  • Contract Administration & Change Control: Prepare and manage all contractual documentation, including valuations, payment certificates, contractual notices and correspondence.
  • Evaluate and manage variations, compensation events and change control processes.
  • Support dispute avoidance strategies and contribute to issue resolution where required.
  • Risk & Compliance: Participate in contract risk reviews and ensure risks are identified, assessed and managed in line with NEC principles.
  • Ensure commercial governance and assurance across all contractual arrangements.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Management: Work closely with Project Managers, Planners, Engineers, Procurement, Legal, Finance teams and Contractors to achieve project objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients and supply chain partners.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior commercial team members where appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Construction Law, or a related discipline.
  • Professional accreditation (MRICS, CIOB, or equivalent) desirable.

Experience & Skills

  • Good experience in a Quantity Surveying or commercial role.
  • Strong experience working with NEC contracts, ideally NEC4 (Options A, C, and/or E).
  • Proven background in commercial and subcontract administration within EPC or major infrastructure projects.
  • Sound knowledge of cost management, forecasting, valuations and payment processes.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving capability, with a proactive and structured approach.
