Waste and Cleansing Supervisor
Craigmillar Depot
Salary: £34,452 – £40,501
Hours: 36 per week
4X4 Day shift 06.00 – 17.02. This post requires a driving licence.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day activities of a designated group of Waste and Cleansing staff, delivering services including street cleaning, waste and recycling collection, litter collection from open spaces, street washing, graffiti removal and environmental inspection.
- Act as the first point of contact with the public, provide advice, respond to problems, and liaise with Council colleagues and other parties to maintain high standards of customer care.
- Support or take environmental enforcement action as directed by line management.
- Plan, prioritise and allocate staff and resources to ensure adequate cover and continuity of service.
- Monitor and manage work performance using methods such as route planning/optimisation software and mobile technology to deliver a “right first time” service and minimise complaints.
- Order and maintain stocks of uniform and PPE; issue prescribed protective clothing and ensure proper use of uniform and PPE.
- Confirm staff/crew compliance with relevant regulations at the start and end of shifts and ensure drivers are fit to drive safely.
- Brief staff on matters affecting them, including performance, changes to working practices and procedures, and service developments; provide access to relevant Council information such as mandatory HR policies.
- Issue relevant paperwork/instruction to crews at the start of shifts and monitor progress throughout the day.
- Utilise performance information to monitor and manage resources, address exceptions and issues to maximise service delivery.
Qualifications
- Current or attainable qualification at SVQ Level 3 or equivalent in an environmental related subject.
- Valid driving licence is required for the post.
