Barns Medical Practice is an innovative, forward-thinking training practice in the heart of Ayr. Due to the continued development of our clinical services, we are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Registered General Nurse (RGN) to join our nursing team as a Trainee Practice Nurse.
This is an excellent opportunity for a nurse who is passionate about developing a career in Primary Care and wishes to undertake a structured training and development programme leading to competence across the full range of General Practice Nursing services. Full support, mentorship and education will be provided, with clear opportunities for progression into advanced practice roles including Chronic Disease Management, Sexual Health services and Independent Prescribing.

The Role
Working within the Transforming Roles framework for Primary Care Nursing, you will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to deliver safe, effective, person-centred care across the lifespan. You will be supported to build competencies in:
- Clinical assessment and decision-making
- Health promotion and disease prevention
- Long-term condition management
- Person-centred and holistic care planning
- Public health improvement
- Team working and multidisciplinary collaboration
- Digital and information management systems
- Leadership, quality improvement and reflective practice
As your training progresses, you will gain experience in areas include:
- Wound care and compression therapy
- Venepuncture and ECGs
- Immunisations and vaccinations
- Sexual health and contraception advice
- Cervical screening
- Hypertension, diabetes and respiratory disease management
- Asthma and COPD reviews
- Health promotion and weight management
- Screening programmes and preventative care
- Patient education and self-management support
Salary: circa Agenda for Change Band 5
