Overview
Through funding from the Big Lottery Fairer Life Chances Programme we have established our Gender Based Violence (GBV) Hub (Safe Harbour) located in Leith, Edinburgh. Domestic abuse support is risk based and often crisis intervention but, along with this, Sacro will provide wrap around, holistic support via counselling, wellbeing activities and peer support. Safe Harbour is a safe, non judgemental and welcoming place for peers and professionals to meet and engage. Support offered will not be time limited, focusing on the ethos of the right support at the right time.
Services Provided
- Lunar – supporting women and trans people selling or exchanging sex.
- Aditi – supporting women of colour who have experienced domestic abuse, Honour Based Violence and Female Genital Mutilation.
- FearFree – supporting heterosexual men and those from the LGBT+ communities, including trans people.
Role
We are looking for a qualified counsellor with 2 years’ post qualifying experience who has delivered counselling to individuals affected by domestic abuse. Candidates must have a gender ed informed understanding of domestic abuse, be an effective communicator, highly organised and possess effective case work management skills.
Responsibilities
- Deliver counselling and psychotherapy interventions (usually sessions) to anyone who has experienced domestic abuse and who has accessed or been referred to Lunar, Aditi or FearFree.
- Engage with a diverse range of clients, including women, heterosexual men, trans people and members of LGBT+ communities.
- Escalate any concerns around client safety, wellbeing and child protection in accordance with counselling/psychotherapy ethical codes, Scottish legislation and relevant Sacro policies.
Requirements
- 2 years post qualifying experience delivering counselling to individuals affected by domestic abuse.
- Gendered understanding of domestic abuse.
- Effective communicator, highly organised with effective casework management skills.
- Membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme and membership of a recognised regulatory body (COSCA, BACP, UKCP, etc.).
- Accreditation, or working towards accreditation, and hold your own indemnity insurance.
