Job Description

Overview

Teaching time: up to 12 hrs
Staff managed by Team Leader: up to 7 FTE teachers, up to 11 FTE support staff.

Responsibilities

  • Support senior managers in planning and strategic direction of support, accessibility, and health and wellbeing for deaf children and young people.
  • Lead the Deaf Support Team improvement plan and be accountable for its progress.
  • Take a lead role in identified CAT/in-service sessions, staff meetings, and working groups.
  • Conduct specialist pupil assessment relating to deaf learners.
  • Undertake a line management role for designated staff as required.
  • Provide professional reviews of staff as required.
  • Participate in recruitment of staff as required.
  • Manage off site units, groups, and classes as appropriate.
  • Take responsibility for health and safety in relation to groups and classes as appropriate.
  • Allocate caseloads/support and manage the associated systems and recording.
  • Manage the provision of assistive listening equipment and advise on reasonable adjustments.
  • Ensure children and young people supported by the team experience effective transitions at all stages and achieve and sustain appropriate and positive post school destinations.
  • Lead and support the team to engage with and strengthen the capacity and confidence of families in supporting deaf children and young people.
  • Contribute to the service’s Quality Assurance processes.
  • Promote and implement effective links with schools and third sector organisations to ensure effective support for children and young people with additional support for learning needs.
  • Meet parents, partners, and specialist agencies as necessary and work collaboratively within and across service areas/teams.

Qualifications & Checks

Preferred candidate will be required to join the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Individuals with continuous periods of 3 months or more out of the UK in the last 5 years must undergo an Overseas Criminal Record Check. The outcome of these pre employment checks must be deemed satisfactory to offer employment and commence in the post.
