Teacher (Primary Swimming Specialist – peripatetic)
Fixed term until 30/06/2027. City Wide. Salary £35,022 – £52,740. Hours 35 per week.
Role Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed specialist to join our Primary Curricular Swimming Team for the 2026/27 academic session. The role involves delivering high quality swimming lessons across primary schools, teaching P5 pupils and, where timetabled, preparing P4 pupils. As a peripatetic teacher you will work across a variety of schools and swimming pools throughout the week and academic year.
Responsibilities
- Deliver curricular swimming lessons to P5 pupils, with preparatory lessons to P4 pupils where permitted.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and independently as required.
- Monitor and record pupil progress using Pupil Tracker.
- Ensure health and safety and comply with City of Edinburgh Council swimming certificate stages and the Scottish Swimming Framework.
Qualifications
- Physical Education Teacher or Primary Teacher with a recognised swimming teaching or coaching qualification.
- Accredited rescue qualification (e.g., National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches), or willingness to obtain while in post.
Additional Requirements
- Strong organisational skills and flexibility to work across schools and pools.
- Commitment to providing excellent learning experiences for children of varying abilities.
- Required to join the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or complete an update check. Overseas Criminal Record Check required if spent 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years.
