Site Reliability Engineer
Join us as a Site Reliability Engineer at Barclays, where you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the resilience and availability of critical banking technology systems that power Barclays and support the global economy. You will be part of a Global L2 Team providing support for production applications, driving operational excellence and service reliability across our diverse technology landscape.
Purpose of the Role
To apply software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response, to ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of the systems, platforms, and technology.
Accountabilities
Availability, performance, and scalability of systems and services through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and capacity planning.
Resolution, analysis and response to system outages and disruptions, and implementation of measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
Development of tools and scripts to automate operational processes, reducing manual workload, increasing efficiency, and improving system resilience.
Monitoring and optimisation of system performance and resource usage, identifying and addressing bottlenecks, and implementing best practices for performance tuning.
Collaboration with development teams to integrate best practices for reliability, scalability, and performance into the software development lifecycle, and working closely with other teams to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
Staying informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contributing to the organisation’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.

Key Qualifications
- Experience on Linux/Unix, Java Applications, Oracle, SQL (PL/SQL/MySQL) and RDBMS, with exposure to writing queries, tuning concepts, and data analysis.
- Experience with at least two of the following middleware technologies: JBOSS, Apache Tomcat, Glassfish.
- Experience with cloud technologies, including AWS and OpenShift/APIs.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as AppDynamics.
- Experience with ITRS and scheduling tools, e.g., TWS and/or Autosys.
- Prior experience and knowledge of Barclays or the banking domain are preferred.
- Skills in programming languages such as ML, AI/GenAI, Shell, Java, Python, JSON, or others are preferred.
This role will be based in Glasgow.
