Job Description
Overview
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across clinical and non-clinical professions. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.
The role
The Mental Health Assessment Unit (MHAU), as part of the Unscheduled Care Service, presents an opportunity for two Band 5 Registered Mental Nurses to undertake a fixed term post of 12 months (full-time). The MHAU offers same-day face-to-face assessment, diagnosis and treatment options to individuals who would ordinarily come to the attention of emergency services. Referrals are accepted from Emergency Departments within GG&C, Police Scotland, Scottish Ambulance Service, GPs and NHS24. Assessments are offered within the units and an outreach facility is available where indicated. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and be familiar with completing a mental health assessment. Awareness of community services and resources would be advantageous. A full driving licence would be beneficial. The role provides the opportunity to work within a dynamic environment liaising with professionals from other agencies. A robust teaching programme is embedded within the service.
The MHAUs are based within the Leverndale and Stobhill sites.
