The role
As a Senior Project Accountant, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary, where you’ll be responsible for providing key financial support to our LGE business. As a key member of the LGE Finance team, working closely with the LGE business to provide robust project reporting to enable the business to understand the financial performance of all their projects. and to make meaningful decisions. You’ll also support the growth agenda of the Marine Division of Babcock through contributing to business forecasting.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building strong, supportive relationships with the LGE leadership team, providing monthly project controls, project reporting and variance analysis.
  • Supporting the LGE month end process, specifically owning all the month end deliverables for all the projects, particularly including the calculation of IFRS15 Revenue Recognition, ensuring it is all delivered on time and to the highest standard.
  • Engaging in monthly reviews with the Operational teams of the business to provide details of performance of projects and questioning / challenging where necessary.
  • Delivering all the monthly balance sheet reconciliations related to projects and reviewing regularly with all key stakeholders.
  • Owning the financial forecasts/budgets for all the projects, from a monthly rolling forecast to the annual budget process, along with ad hoc forecasts too.
  • Contributing to cash management reporting and weekly forecasting.
  • Line management for one colleague.
  • Ad hoc work to support a growing, rapidly changing business.

Essential experience of the Senior Project Accountant

  • Excellent communication skills, including presenting clear and concise financial messages.
  • Ability to build good stakeholder relationships across the organisation.
  • Strong numeric and analytical skills – strong ability to understand and manipulate data, to include strong Excel skills.
  • Ability to present clear and concise financial messages.
  • Solid accounting technical skills.
  • The ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Any experience gained in a similar Project Accounting environment (this could be from a business with long terms contracts across a wide definition) would be a distinct advantage.

This is a full-time role where we offer hybrid working with 2/3 days per week required on site at Rosyth.

Qualifications for the Senior Project Accountant:

  • Qualified Accountant (preferably CIMA or ACCA), with demonstrable PQE
