Job Description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:

Specialist Children’s Services includes all specialist services in Community Paediatrics, Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) and Hosted Services. These services cover NHS Greater Glasgow and
.

Universal Children’s Services includes Children and Families teams, Health Visiting and School Nursing as well as a number of specialist teams such as Family Nurse Partnership, Glasgow City Parenting team and the Homeless Families service.

The NHSGGC Specialist Children’s Services Management Team draws together staff from planning, development, performance and clinical leadership and works closely with colleagues from HSCPs, finance, public health, health improvement, and Women and Children’s Directorate. The team also works closely with local authority colleagues across NHSGGC.

The purpose of Specialist Children’s Services is to:

  • Manage designated hosted NHS services.
  • Improve the health and wellbeing of the population and reduce inequalities.
  • Deliver specialist health services to children.
  • Achieve better specialist care for its population through integration with Tier 4, acute paediatric services, CAMHS & adult mental health services.
  • Contribute to NHS and Local Authority planning processes, at HSCP level and across NHSGGC.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Permanent, Full time

Base location – Templeton Business Centre

Shift Pattern – Monday – Wednesday & Friday 9am-5pm, Thursday 9:30-5pm

Key responsibilities:

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Analyse, interpret, and present complex datasets to a high standard using spreadsheets, statistical tools, and strong report writing skills.

  • Ensure outputs are accurate, meaningful, and suitable for clinical, operational, and policy decision making.

System Development and Expert Guidance

  • Specify requirements and contribute to the design and improvement of SCS systems and processes.

  • Provide expert advice on system usage, analytical methods, and innovative solutions for clinicians, NHS teams, the public, and policy makers.

Training and Knowledge Sharing

  • Support the creation and delivery of training programmes that help clinical and business staff learn from data and research.

  • Explain data, standards, and evidence clearly to support informed decision making and quality improvement.

Teamwork and Service Support

  • Work collaboratively within the team to meet the information and quality improvement needs of NHSGGC Children’s Services.

  • Participate in meetings, user groups, and communication activities to share updates, guidance, and service developments.

Publications and Guidance

  • Contribute to producing publications, guidance documents, and web content.

  • Support dissemination of operational changes and associated data.

Project and Workload Management

  • Take part in management meetings to prioritise work, manage expectations, and negotiate conflicting demands.

  • Work with clinicians, business support staff, and partner organisations on audits, projects, and best practice initiatives.

Data Systems and Quality Improvement

  • Support the development and improvement of datasets and information systems (e.g., EMIS, Microstrategy).

  • Train and guide system users to ensure compliance with operational standards and improve data quality.

Cross Site and Project Leadership

  • Work across the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area, participating in short life working groups and leading projects when required.

  • Stay up to date with redesign and improvement programmes within Specialist Children’s Services.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Essential.

  • Graduate with additional relevant experience in health related service research, evaluation or information work.
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to take a lead role in project management.
  • Proven analysis and presentation skills, including expert knowledge of software packages such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proven IT skills and experience in developing systems and using informatics to drive quality improvement programmes.
  • Good Leadership, organisational, listening and communication skills

Desirable.

  • Demonstrate the ability to coach and develop staff.
  • Good working knowledge of advanced statistical software packages, e.g. R/R Studio.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the information needs of the NHS and partner organisations, and how to produce suitable information to meet these requirements
  • Demonstrate a commitment to personal development. In order to reach the appropriate level of skills and knowledge necessary to perform the full duties of the job, the post-holder will be required to make the best use of opportunities to develop in post to:
    • -Acquire expert knowledge of analytical and statistical techniques and analysis tools.
    • -Establish a high level of expertise and knowledge within own specialist area(s) and an awareness of how they relate to the wider NHS.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
