Join Barclays as a Senior Android Engineer and play a key role in the ongoing development and technical evolution of a single, business critical Android application. You will work on complex product features, contribute to architectural decisions, and help ensure the application remains robust, maintainable, and fit for long term evolution. This role suits someone comfortable working in a mature codebase, balancing modern Android development with real world constraints, and taking ownership of technical quality end to end.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in Android Architecture and Dependency Injection (MVVM, Clean Architecture, modularisation, Hilt/Dagger).
- Strong experience in Reactive Kotlin Development (Coroutines, Flow) and Modern UI frameworks (Jetpack Compose).
- Proven ability to write testable code with a solid foundation in automated testing (unit and instrumentation).
Preferred Skills
- Experience with CI/CD and build pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, Gradle optimisation, Groovy).
- Strong scripting and automation skills (Groovy, Ruby).
- Familiarity with Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP).
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum, preferably within the financial services sector.
- Experience in tutoring junior developers.

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
Accountabilities
- Development and delivery of high quality software solutions using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks and tools; ensuring code is scalable, maintainable and optimised for performance.
- Cross functional collaboration with product managers, designers and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaboration with peers, participation in code reviews and promotion of a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Staying informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contributing to the organisation’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data and ensure secure software solutions.
- Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability and reliability.
