SEND Teaching Assistant (Wellbeing Mentor) – Full-time, temporary to permanent from September 2026

This SEND Teaching Assistant (Wellbeing Mentor) role offers a full time, temporary to permanent opportunity starting September 2026. The SEND Teaching Assistant will focus on supporting pupils’ emotional well being, behaviour, and engagement with learning, working closely with teaching and pastoral staff. This role is ideal for someone passionate about mental health, emotional support, and helping pupils with additional needs feel safe, confident, and ready to learn.
Duties as SEND Teaching Assistant (Wellbeing Mentor):
- Provide targeted wellbeing and emotional support to pupils with SEND
- Support pupils to regulate emotions and manage behaviour positively
- Work one to one and in small groups to promote resilience and self confidence
- Support pupils’ engagement with learning activities throughout the school dayImplement wellbeing strategies and individual support plans
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, and pastoral teams
- Support pupils during transitions and unstructured times
- Monitor and record pupil progress related to wellbeing and behaviour
- Uphold safeguarding, welfare, and health and safety responsibilities at all times
Qualifications and Attributes:
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEND
- Experience in a wellbeing, mentoring, pastoral, or behaviour support role
- Calm, empathetic, and resilient approach
- Strong communication and relationship building skills
- Ability to remain consistent and supportive in challenging situations
- Commitment to promoting positive mental health and emotional well being
- Willingness to start on a temporary basis with the opportunity to become permanent
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
Salary: dependent on experience – paid weekly through PAYE. No self employed or umbrella companies. The role includes standard wellbeing services as part of the staff package.
