Job Description

Overview

Seasonal Gardener – Vacancy (Live In or Live Out). Penninghame House is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Seasonal Gardener to support the Head Gardener in the ongoing development and maintenance of the historic walled garden and greenhouses. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with a genuine interest in horticulture who enjoys working as part of a small team in a beautiful historic setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the maintenance and development of the walled garden
  • Working in and caring for the greenhouses, including propagation and plant care
  • General garden maintenance: planting, weeding, pruning, and lawn care
  • Supporting seasonal tasks as directed by the Head Gardener

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Practical gardening experience (professional or strong amateur)
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Good attention to detail and pride in high standards

Desirable

  • Horticultural qualification or training
  • Interest in historic gardens and traditional gardening techniques

Contract Details

  • Season: March to end of September
  • Pay: £26,250 per annum pro rata
  • Hours: To be agreed
  • Accommodation: On-site accommodation can be provided if required

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a developing historic garden under the guidance of an experienced Head Gardener.
