School Crossing Patrol Officer
As a School Crossing Patrol Officer, you will play a vital role in community safety by ensuring children and other members of the community safely cross the road at a designated point between specified times.
Responsibilities
- Ensure safe crossing for children and community members at the designated point between school opening and closing times.
- Attend the patrol point daily, in all weather conditions, including on short notice if the school is unscheduledly closed.
- Maintain vigilance and good road sense, applying knowledge of the Highway Code and Green Cross Code.
- Assist children in safely crossing the road during designated hours (08 15 and 14 25).
- Report any incidents or safety concerns to appropriate authorities.
Qualifications
- No formal qualifications are required, but previous experience working with children is desirable.
- Ability to cope in all weather conditions.
- Good road sense and knowledge of Highway Code/Green Cross Code.
Hours & Contract
Permanent, part time, term time contract. 7.5 hours per week, 38 weeks per year. Main hours are 08 15 and 14 25.
Location
McLean Primary School, Dunfermline.
Salary & Benefits
£25,604.23 pro rata (annualised pay). The post pays the Scottish Local Government Living Wage of £13.64 per hour, with extra payments for shift work, including weekends.

Other Requirements
- Complete an annual Occupational Health Surveillance Questionnaire and attend any Occupational Health assessments as necessary.
- Obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland before confirmation of appointment.
- Attend an induction training day before starting in post.
