Job Description

The Certified Respiratory Therapist is responsible for administering safe and competent respiratory care as ordered by a physician, with emphasis in specialty areas including Emergency, Neonatal, Pediatric, Geriatric, and Critical Care. Responsibilities include monitoring mechanical ventilation, administering medications, conducting patient assessments, and understanding hemodynamic monitoring and blood work results.

Responsibilities

  • Competently deliver all Respiratory Care procedures as outlined in the department policy and procedure manual.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all Respiratory Care procedures.
  • Verify Respiratory Care physician’s orders and update patient information reflecting current clinical status.
  • Participate in department meetings and continuous education.
  • Perform effective airway management and assist in intubation procedures.
  • Conduct arterial blood gas draws and monitor ventilator patients efficiently.
  • Train and orient new employees and respiratory/nursing students.
  • Comply with personal protective equipment requirements for safety.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

  • Must be a graduate of a COARC approved Respiratory Care Program with Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential.
  • BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • NRP certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • At least one year of respiratory experience in a hospital setting preferred.
  • Experience in pulmonary diagnostics is preferred.
