Registered Manager – Role Overview
Our service in Lockerbie is a semi independent accommodation for young people aged 16+. The service supports looked after young people to build independent living skills before transitioning out of care.
You will oversee a team of childcare practitioners and promote excellent standards of practice. You will guide the team in implementing high quality care, manage outcome measures, record keeping and data analysis, and ensure that practice and culture are continuously reviewed and challenged.

We look after children and young people from a variety of backgrounds who have experienced trauma or adverse life experiences and need specialist therapeutic support in a small residential setting and through our supported accommodation service.

Ideal Registered Manager
- Significant experience of working in a residential children’s home
- Experience supervising or managing a team
- SVQ 4 & HNC in Social Care or equivalent
- Relevant care management qualification or willingness to work towards one
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection
- Full UK manual driving licence and confident driver
- Knowledge of intervention strategies for children and young people
- Working knowledge of childcare legislation (Health & Social Care Standards 2018, Children (Scotland) Act 1995, GIRFEC)
- Understanding of child development processes
Registered Manager – Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Residential Department
- Develop senior practitioners to reach their full potential and achieve job objectives
- Monitor and review practitioner performance, effecting improvement where possible
- Oversee implementation of operations, health and safety policies through the care practitioners
- Support staff in developing mindful relationships with key stakeholders
- Suggest facility improvements
- Manage home budgets monthly to ensure appropriate spending of allowances
- Ensure all policies and procedures are adhered to by all care practitioners
Young People
- Ensure child protection policy adherence and correct incident procedures
- Monitor, record and report progress of all young people effectively
- Maintain regular, effective communication with key stakeholders
- Ensure all medical needs of young people are met and monitored
- Participate in reviews, case conferences, support meetings and multidisciplinary meetings
- Review behaviour trends with aim of reducing incidents
Registered Manager – Staffing
- Ensure outcome measures demonstrate home effectiveness
- Supervise and appraise practitioners and seniors
- Ensure attendance to mandatory and required training courses for own and staff
- Support equality, diversity and rights of young people and colleagues
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation
- Define and maintain clarified residential staff roles and responsibilities
Recording and Reporting
- Maintain accurate, up to date records per Greenleaf policy
- Monitor and analyse data about homes to identify trends, take remedial action and devise solutions
- Produce regular data analyses of home performance
- Report and communicate with business management team
- Undertake other tasks as directed by senior management, consistent with Greenleaf values and vision
Managers will be part of an on call system, offering support Monday to Thursday and rotating on call support Friday to Sunday with senior staff within their home or geographical area.
Managers will work 40 hours per week, with normal hours between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, remaining flexible to offer support when required, including evenings, nights, weekends and sleepovers. Residential work is varied and unpredictable; all managers are expected to work flexibly and undertake tasks not covered in the job description.

Registered Manager – Minimum Requirements
- Experience of working in a residential children’s home in a management or supervisory capacity
- Eligibility for SSSC registration and PVG membership for work with children and adults
- Full manual UK driving licence and eligibility for company car insurance
- Relevant qualifications in social care or related subject
- Excellent communication, IT and teamwork skills
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection
