Pupil Support Assistant

Balerno Community High School – Six-year comprehensive school serving Balerno, Ratho and Kirknewton.

Salary: £26,806 – £27,032 (pro rata for part time and sessional). Hours: 27.5 per week, 39 weeks sessional.

Role purpose: Support pupils within the classroom as part of the Support for Learning team, encouraging students and maximising attainment for all pupils.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist and encourage students, helping them achieve their potential.
  • Collaborate with the high achieving Learning team and other staff to provide the best support for young people.
  • Contribute to the inclusive, high quality learning environment and the school’s extra curricular and enrichment programmes.
  • Support the implementation of the school’s inclusive approach and commitment to equality of opportunity.

Requirements:

  • Commitment to raising attainment for all pupils.
  • Willingness to join the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act scheme or provide a new check if required.
  • Desire to work within a diverse and inclusive workforce, valuing each individual’s contribution.
  • Experience or ability to work with children and protected adults is preferable.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults. The candidate will need to join the PVG scheme or give an updated check, and an overseas criminal record check may be required if the applicant has spent three months or more abroad in the last five years.
