Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for Principal Design Engineer on a 6 Month Rolling Contract, based in Glasgow.
Role Summary
Principal Design Engineer will lead and work in a skilled team on a wide range of transmission substation projects. The position will focus on the project and tender engineering and its interfaces and scope of work involved in HV – substation design to meet customer needs, legislative demands and standards.
- Overall responsible for managing & leading all engineering activities from early project engagement through to the As-Built stage with strict adherence to Project Specifications & standards including QA/QC, HSSE & Integrity.
- Technical lead of large and complex EHV/HV Air & Gas Insulated Substation (AIS & GIS) projects in UK.
- Supervise, coordinate & provide guidance to engineering teams within the company (local & remote), internal & external partners, sub-suppliers, secondary engineers & civil engineers.
- Provide information for civil designs and coordination of interfaces between construction planning, steel structure engineering, protection and control system, auxiliary power system and all equipment suppliers for the project.
- Participate and lead in technical discussions with customers and suppliers, handle site queries and take necessary actions up to as-built documentation
- Engineering budget, schedule, forecast, risk & change management activities.
- Technical claim management & supporting PM/Contracting/Operation management team.
Requirements
- Bachelor or master s in electrical engineering or equivalent
- Proven experience in transmission substation engineering, with focus on detailed design, tender process and site support.
- Knowledge of required SSEN & SPEN requirements and standards.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it
- Result orientated team player with a proactive approach.
- Excellent in communication, to interact with external and internal parties at all levels in a multi-cultural environment.
- Expert knowledge in Substation design and engineering, Layouts, Primary design & calculations, Grounding & Lightning design, Steel design inputs, transformers, HV & MV Switchgear systems,
- Knowledge of system studies like load flow, short circuit calculation; Single Line Diagrams, CT/VT calculations, Auxiliary Power Systems, power cables.
- Knowledge of secondary engineering, protection and control system.
- Experience in Installation & Commissioning is a plus.
- Strong in MS Office, knowledge in MicroStation and AutoCAD is required.
- Fluency in English both written and spoken
- Availability to travel 25 % of the time (domestic/international travel)
