The Potato Picker role, based in Girvan, involves joining a seasonal harvest crew for Girvan Early Growers. This full-time, temporary position pays £13.50 per hour with overtime at £18.00. Typical shifts run from 7:00 AM to 5:00 or 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work. Duties include standing on mechanical harvesters to sort and grade Ayrshire Early Potatoes. Physical fitness and reliability are essential; no prior experience is required. Paid breaks are provided, alongside a 30-minute unpaid lunch. Pay & Hours

  • Standard Rate: £13.50 per hour
  • Overtime Rate: £18.00 per hour

  • Break Times
    • Morning Break: 15 minutes (Paid)
    • Lunch Break: 30 minutes (Unpaid)
    • Late Afternoon Break: 15 minutes (Paid)

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Stand on mechanical harvesters to sort and grade potatoes on a moving conveyor belt.
  • Remove stones, soil clods, and damaged crop from the line.
  • Help prepare, load, and secure potato crates for transport.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions as part of a friendly, hard-working team.

About You

  • Physically fit and comfortable standing for long periods and walking on uneven ground.
  • Reliable, punctual, and a team player (we depend on each other to keep the harvest moving).
  • Have your own transport to get to the farms or our Grangestone base.
  • Outdoor workwear and sturdy boots are essential.
