The role
We are seeking a highly motivated and proactive registered Pharmacy Technician to join our friendly and supportive pharmacy team at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley. You will work within a collaborative environment to deliver high quality, patient focused pharmaceutical care, ensuring patients receive maximum benefit and minimal harm from their medicines. This is a key role in supporting the ongoing development of pharmacy technical services, contributing to the advancement of practice for both Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Support Workers.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
This is a part time position (28.8 hours per week), typically worked over four days (09:18 – 17:00, Monday to Friday – negotiable). The post also includes participation in weekend and public holiday working as part of the service rota. Salary is pro rata for part time hours.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the day to day operations of the dispensary, supervising staff and overseeing workflow, prioritising effectively, maintaining safe and efficient processes and communicating clearly with colleagues.
- On a rotational basis, manage the pharmacy service within the Discharge Lounge, supporting timely patient discharge, reducing ward waiting times and alleviating pressure on hospital resources. This includes accuracy checking of discharge prescriptions – a recognised Dispensary Accuracy Checking qualification is essential. Work independently, maintain high levels of accuracy under pressure and communicate effectively with prescribers, nursing staff and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure the safe supply of medicines.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
- Candidates must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and demonstrate a high standard of professional practice alongside a commitment to continuous professional development.
- Be self motivated, adaptable and demonstrate a positive and flexible approach to work. Use and develop professional judgement, contribute to service improvement initiatives and support the training, supervision, performance and development of staff.
