JOB DESCRIPTION
REPORTS TO: Process Supervisor
DEPARTMENT: Peat Fire
HOURS: Average working hours are 40 each week on a rotating shift basis, including night and day shifts. Current shift pattern as follows:
Week 4: Monday-Thursday 6pm-6.30am (50 hours night shift)
There will be a requirement to work overtime as and when required and to work 12.5 hour shifts as necessary to cover for holidays and sickness. A change to the rotating shift pattern may be required when the peat fire is on down time. Requirement to work staggered day shifts during harvest period. No holidays can be taken during the busy harvest period.
SUMMARY OF JOB:
Responsible to the Process Supervisor for operating the Peat Fire in order to produce speciality malt with a peaty flavour for distilling customers and helping with the drying of barley during the barley harvest period. The job will require lone working, shift work, manual handling and confined space working and all employees must adhere to all policies and procedures, including the zero drink and drugs policy, participating in all required training and the wearing of all required personal protective equipment whilst on site.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend, stoke and keep control of the Peat Fire
- Load peat using Fork Lift Truck
- Shovel peat on to the fire to ensure maximum smoke levels
- Undertake heavy manual work adhering to approved manual handling techniques
- Helping operators with process
- Cleaning and hygiene of site
- Carry out other duties that fall within your capabilities as required
- Keep a safe working environment and adhere to all safety procedures and policies

Skills/Abilities:
- Literate with the ability to follow policies and procedures
- Ability to work unsupervised and act on own initiative
- Able to work in inclement conditions (both warm and cold)
- Safety conscious
- Flexible
- Reliable and good time keeping
Qualifications: Fundamentals in Malting (or prepared to work towards)
Working Knowledge: Previous Fork Lift Truck experience advantageous
