Job Outline – P/T SUPPORT WORKER / DRIVER

Ref: 01/Galston/MM

Post: Personal Assistant to a young man in his 20s

Work pattern: 12 hrs week 1 , 15 hrs week 2 , alternating

Salary: Living wage rate – £13.45 per hour, wages are paid 4 weekly in arrears

Annual Leave: 5.6 weeks paid Annual leave pro rate for contracted staff

Days of work / times required – to be discussed at interview

Job Purpose

To support a young man with social support, getting out and about within his community. Part of the role would be using your own car to get him to his activities (petrol reimbursed). His hobbies include going to the gym, taking part in classes at Centerstage, community classes, walks, shopping, and lunch outings.

Employer & Payroll

You will be employed by a private employer; payroll and employment support will be administered by an external support organisation.

Probationary period

• 6 month probationary period attached to the post

• Successful applicant must undergo a PVG disclosure scheme and supply 2 up to date reference contacts prior to appointment

• PVG fee paid by you, reimbursed after first pay

Responsibilities

  • Support the person to engage in all aspects of community life and activities as directed, ensuring safety while in your care
  • Be flexible to cover evenings and weekends; times and days will be planned in advance
  • Drive your own vehicle (must have a clean business use driver’s licence; proof required)
  • Provide companionship in the young man’s home as required
  • Encourage independence and personal choice during activities
  • Participate in activities that match the person’s interests and help build community contacts

  • Demonstrable experience supporting people to fulfil their potential and live active lives
  • Understanding of how to support and facilitate in an empowering way
  • Good interpersonal skills and values reflecting social inclusion
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Good organisational skills
  • Working knowledge of good person centred practice

Attributes (Desirable)

  • Lived experience of positively supporting someone as a peer or similar
  • Engagement skills and ability to work in partnership with others
  • Experience supporting people to achieve positive outcomes
  • Wide interest in community activities and ability to connect with them
  • Good sense of humour, flexibility and reliability

Must have a full clean UK driving licence and be physically capable of the role.
