Job Outline – Female Support Worker

Post: Female Personal Assistant to a young lady who is 20 and lives in Cumnock, East Ayrshire.

Hours: 15 hours per week. Salary: Living wage rate – £12.60 per hour, paid 4 weekly in arrears.

Annual leave: 5.6 weeks paid prorated for contracted staff.

Schedule: Wednesday, Friday after Day Care Centre (2 PM 6 PM), Saturday or Sunday 11 AM 6 PM. Flexible schedule required.

Job purpose: To support a young lady with a learning disability and sight impairment in engaging with her community. She enjoys swimming, bowling, outdoor activities, music and dancing.

Employer: Personal employer; payroll and statutory duties managed by a support organisation.

Probationary period: 6 months. Requires PVG disclosure update and two up to date references before appointment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the person to participate in all aspects of community life and activities as directed by her family.
  • Assist with a small amount of personal care tasks while she is out.
  • Provide companionship at home and during outings, including bus trips.
  • Attend events such as swimming, ten pin bowling and other preferred activities.
  • Adapt to flexible work hours and respond to family guidance about the person’s choices.

Training

Training will be provided as required.

Person Specification

  • Essential criteria
    • Demonstrable experience supporting people to fulfil their potential and have active lives.
    • Understanding of how to support and facilitate in a way that empowers the person.
    • Good interpersonal, communication and listening skills.
    • Good organisational skills and working knowledge of person centred practice.
    • Experience drawing on lived experience or similar.
    • Ability to engage effectively and work in partnership with others.
    • Track record of supporting people to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Desirable
    • Knowledge of community activities and the ability to make contacts/network.
    • Physical fitness to assist during outings.
    • Good sense of humour, reliable, flexible and down to earth.

Successful application requires 2 references and a new PVG update.
