Your future role
This varied and hands on role supports the day to day operations of the depot through a mix of practical tasks including FLT driving, refuelling, sanding, basic maintenance, and train preparation. You’ll assist with fault reporting, housekeeping, system updates (SAP, Alista, CMS), and train movement where certified. With a strong focus on safety, compliance, and teamwork, you’ll play a key role in keeping the depot running smoothly and efficiently.
We’ll look to you for:
- FLT Driving
- Sanding
- Fuelling and system top up
- General depot duties e.g.: Line of Routes
- Chlorinating water points
- Primary fault finding/reporting
- Basic maintenance competency e.g.: side skirt cleans, brake pads, block changes etc.
- Gritting of walkways in severe weather conditions and/or exceptional circumstances
- Depot cleaning/general housekeeping (This will have no impact on Cleaners headcount)
- Driving company vehicles if certified
- Taking of fuel meter readings off rail vehicles
- Train cleaning by exception (This will have no impact on Cleaners headcount)
- Alista, SAP and SES input
- CMS logbook to be updated accordingly
- Crane driving and lifting equipment where training has been provided & competent
- Appointed persons
- Mentoring others as and when required
- Nominated person as required
- Additional training for future similar roles/types of equipment
- Train driving of all types of unit to site
- Shunting
- Train acceptance and dispatch as instructed by level 1 / 2 Ops support.
- Understand and abide by safety notices, rules & regulations and follow safe working practices
- H&SAWA and COSHH
- Work in conjunction with Alstom’s lifesaving rules
- Comply with and enforce Alstom’s Zero Deviation Policy (AZDP)
