PositionAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Laboratory Assistant within our Microbiology Department at University Hospital Crosshouse.

HoursFull time: 36hrs on average per week working a contractual shift system covering 7 days per week.

This post is offered on a permanent basis.

Bank: As and when required basis covering all shift patterns.

What You Will DoThe post holder would be expected to carry out, under the supervision of qualified laboratory staff, a range of routine laboratory and administrative tasks. This would include the following: Receive and label specimens and distribute to the relevant department/section; Carry out preparatory procedures on samples; Basic operation of laboratory equipment including regular cleaning/maintenance; Input of patient’s details into the laboratory information system to a high degree of accuracy; General stock keeping duties; General clerical duties; Communication with other departments by phone, letter and email; Handle enquiries from service users: Waste management duties Rotation through all sections of the laboratory will be required. You will require good keyboard skills, the ability to work accurately under pressure and a flexible approach to work. After a period of familiarisation, the post-holder will be required to work within the department’s seven day service and the out of hours service.

Knowledge, Training And/or Experience Required For This PostApplicants must be educated to a minimum of SVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a science based subject and/or have relevant vocational experience in a similar role.
