Job Description

Our client, a global leader in defence electronics, is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join their Radar and Advanced Targeting team in Edinburgh.

The company offers state-of-the-art systems for situational awareness, electronic defence, and surveillance across land, sea, and air. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will assist in the design and development of leading radar and electro-optic products, interfacing with customers and collaborating closely with Engineers from other disciplines, particularly Systems and Electronics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Present robust engineering solutions at design and peer reviews to ensure technical accuracy of specifications, designs and reports.
  • Design innovative, optimised engineering solutions considering product quality, safety, reliability and testability.
  • Perform hands-on mechanical design and development using 3D CAD software, including first-pass structural analysis to determine if a design is fit for purpose.
  • Deliver design solutions against requirements, within budget and timescales.
  • Seek and share good practice and knowledge locally to continuously improve own practices.
  • Champion improvements in product manufacturability through effective relationship building and design guidance.
  • Build effective cross-functional relationships within local site, across business and internationally within group and suppliers.
  • Continue professional development through formal training and on-the-job learning.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in mechanical engineering detailed design, including numerical calculations and tolerance studies.
  • Problem-solving and simultaneous engineering skills with a structured, logical approach.
  • Customer orientation with the ability to fulfil customer requirements (internal and/or external).
  • Understanding of fundamental business principles, drivers and key customers.
  • Self-motivated and willing to take on new challenges.
  • Working towards Chartered Engineer status with IMechE or equivalent, or possessing many of the UK-SPEC competencies necessary for obtaining Chartered status within the next two years.
  • Eligibility for full security clearance.
