About the role

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non clinical professions. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million.

Shift pattern and contract

Fixed term post, 12 months. Working 40 hours per week over 7 days, with 1:19 non resident on call. The post is available from January 2026; applicants starting in subsequent months are welcome.

Responsibility

The successful candidate will join an established team of General Medicine Consultants, responsible for the care of inpatients with a range of acute and chronic medical diseases. Duties include inpatient care at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) and associated South Sector sites, on call duties, and supporting scheduled care services in an outpatient setting. There may be scope to tailor clinical sessions to MHDU, evenings or weekends, depending on discussion with the successful candidate. The distribution of responsibilities between the appointee and the consultant team will be finalised post appointment.

Qualifications

Applicants must have MRCP, full GMC registration and a licence to practise. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training in General Internal Medicine or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR), or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview.
