Job Description
Are you an experienced Litigation or Debt Recovery Paralegal looking for a role that offers greater variety and the opportunity to broaden your legal experience?
I’m working with a leading international law firm that is looking to appoint an experienced Litigation Paralegal / Senior Paralegal to join its established Legal Services Unit, with the role available in Glasgow or Edinburgh.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a paralegal who wants to move beyond traditional debt recovery and gain exposure to a much broader range of contentious and commercial work.
The successful candidate will work primarily alongside the firm’s Intellectual Property team on contentious matters, supporting a range of high profile clients. There will also be opportunities to assist with real estate planning work, due diligence, document management and client projects including Data Subject Access Requests.
The Role:
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting Scottish Court of Session and English litigation matters, including undefended actions.
- Preparing and issuing Letters Before Action and assisting with the raising of court actions.
- Preparing court paperwork and productions and progressing matters through the relevant court processes.
- Managing your own caseload, ensuring deadlines and client requirements are met.
- Dealing directly with debtors, defendants and other third parties, including handling telephone queries and negotiating payment arrangements.
- Working with clients and fee earners to agree appropriate recovery and enforcement strategies.
- Instructing and overseeing asset tracing, property searches, insolvency checks and enforcement activity.
- Progressing money judgments and post judgement recovery across Scottish and English jurisdictions.
- Supporting the Intellectual Property team with contentious workstreams.
- Assisting with document management and due diligence for the real estate planning team.
- Supporting client projects, including Data Subject Access Requests.
About You:
I’m keen to speak with experienced Litigation or Debt Recovery Paralegals who are looking for their next career move and want to develop their experience within a leading international practice.
Previous litigation experience is essential, ideally gained within debt recovery or a similar litigation focused paralegal role.
Experience of the Scottish Court of Session and/or English court process would be advantageous, as would experience managing your own caseload and dealing directly with debtors or defendants.
You’ll also need:
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- The confidence to deal directly with clients, debtors and other stakeholders.
- The ability to manage competing deadlines and work independently.
- A strong team focused approach.
- Good Microsoft Office skills.
- An interest in legal technology, AI and developing new ways of working.
A law degree and/or relevant paralegal qualification would be advantageous, but hands on litigation experience is the key requirement.
What’s on Offer?
This is a particularly good opportunity for someone who wants to broaden their skill set and gain exposure to contentious IP work within a highly regarded international law firm.
You’ll benefit from a very generous package which includes hybrid and flexible working, a bonus scheme, private medical care, enhanced parental leave and career progression opportunities.
If you’re an experienced Litigation or Debt Recovery Paralegal who is ready for a role offering more variety, greater responsibility and exposure to high profile contentious work, I’d be keen to hear from you.
