Job Description Job Title: Lead Secondary EngineerLocation: Glasgow, United KingdomJoin Us The Lead Secondary Engineer will lead and work in a skilled team on a wide range of SSEN & SPEN substation projects. The position will focus on the project and tender engineering and its interfaces and scope of work involved in HV – substation design and construction projects, within the Linxon EPC to meet customer needs, legislative demands and standards.Key Areas of Responsibility (KARs): Overall responsible for managing & leading all secondary engineering activities from project start till the As-Built stage with strict adherence to Project Specifications & Linxon standards including QA/QC, HSSE & Integrity. Instruct, supervise & coordinate with other engineering team within Linxon (local & remote), internal & external partners, sub-suppliers, secondary engineers & civil engineers. Review of P&C design packages as per NG/ET/SR188 Input to the development of the DID Submitting completed Design Packages for Design Compliance Audit Ensuring all design changes are managed in accordance with the design change management process Attending Design Review meetings (DRMs) and Hazard review meetings (HRMs) as required Review and certify the design packages and issue the DCAAR Lead Secondary design responsibilities including but not limited to SLD, protection and control schemes, interfacing of P&C with new and existing plant and equipment, panel general arrangements, AC & DC distribution systems, battery and battery chargers sizing, voltage drop, cable sizing, signal lists, setting calculation, cable block diagrams, multicore & fiber optic cable schedules, and cables core sheets, SCADA/SCIS architecture development and review of designs. etc. Coordinate with suppliers and reviewing their deliverables. Check remote end requirements and provide input to supplier. Specialised in Substation protection and control system and its architecture Participate in technical discussions with customers and suppliers, handle site queries and take necessary actions up to as-built documentation Lead technical responsibilities for procurement of equipment and subcontractors, including development of project specific technical specifications and accompanying documentation, technical review of quotes and lead technical discussion with regards to scope of works and technical requirements. Secondary engineering budget, schedule, forecast, risk & change management activities. Secondary engineer of large and complex EHV/HV Air & Gas Insulated Substation (AIS & GIS) projects in UK.Technical solutions Provide technical solution for substations comprising SLD, KLD, technical information, and associated detail drawings and documents by established applicable standards, processes and customer specifications through allocated resources remotely. Prepare Design Intent Document (DID) / Functional Design Specification (FDS) based on supplier inputs RFQs but not limited to P&C, metering and AC/DC systems Reviewing supplier deliverables based on project specifications and standards. Support site team during execution stage. Provide technical calculations and schedules for all equipment for projects or tenders. Create / review protection setting reports and IED configuration files. Prepare bill of quantities (PEMS), deviations & clarifications for technical solutions. Review of Suppliers design and Factory acceptance test plans. Provide technical support and to develop tender scheme options and related project scope documents. Availability to travel 25 % of the time (domestic/international travel) working in an office and on a construction siteExperience Required: Bachelor or Master’s in electrical engineering or equivalent Extensive years of substation engineering experience in utilities, particularly transmission electrical network design. Proven experience with both greenfield and brownfield type projects. Knowledge of required SSEN & SPEN requirements and standards. Other Position-Specific Characteristics Availability to travel 25 % of the time (domestic/international travel) Hybrid working arrangement with availability to attend site where required.Competencies/ Skills Required: Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it Result orientated team player with a proactive approach. Excellent in communication, to interact with external and internal parties at all levels in a multi-cultural environment. Expert knowledge in Substation secondary design engineering, AC & DC system calculation, compilation of signal list, setting calculation, interface engineering and preparing cable schedules Strong in MS Office, knowledge in MicroStation and AutoCAD is required.
