Job Description

We have an established and well-respected group of lawyers in our Property Liability Team who advise some of the UK’s largest insurers and their underwriters on all classes of property damage claims and recoveries. This includes £multi-million claims for fire, infrastructure damage, flood damage as well as subsidence, under a full suite of property policies to include commercial combined covers, property owners’ risks and Construction All Risks cover. Our policy coverage claims involve advice on non-disclosure and fair presentation of risk and breach of conditions.

The Role

The role offers the opportunity for a broad range of work as the team works for insurers, local authorities and corporate clients on the full range of property damage work including defending liability claims, pursuing high value recoveries, and advising on coverage.

We are interested in hearing from solicitors with a strong academic background and candidates with experience within this practice area. Applicants should have sound technical ability, with experience of property damage liability claims, subrogated recoveries and policy coverage disputes. Experience in handling complex disputes arising out of fires, escapes of water and oil, subsidence and construction & engineering related incidents is an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in reviewing documents, drafting advice to clients and court documents.
  • Support senior team members in managing complex, high value claims.
  • Conduct legal and market research on property and liability matters, regulations, and precedent cases.
  • Help prepare reports, risk assessments, and recommendations for clients or internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records of claims, correspondence, and compliance documents.
  • Liaise with clients, insurers, brokers, and other stakeholders under supervision.
  • Monitor deadlines and ensure timely follow-up on ongoing matters.
  • Assist in claims handling, including initial investigations, gathering evidence, and preparing files for review.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Possess a qualifying Scottish law degree (LLB) and admission as a solicitor in Scotland, holding a current practising certificate from the Law Society of Scotland
  • 0-2 years of experience in property, liability, insurance.
  • Basic understanding of property and liability concepts, policy structures, and claims processes.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks under supervision.
  • Good research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and document management systems.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and take direction from senior colleagues.
