The Position

NHS Orkney is recruiting an Island Nurse for Hoy Island, which has a population of approximately 388 and is part of the Orcades Practice serving 1,953 patients. The role involves providing 24/7 healthcare to the island population as part of a small health team.

The post holder will be responsible for community and practice nursing, including assessment, planning and monitoring of the quality of health care across the community and life span.

Rented accommodation is available locally through a private landlord; rent is payable directly by the successful candidate.

The Candidate

• Experienced Band 6 nurse with forward thinking, highly motivated, up to date clinical knowledge and skills.
• Interest in working and developing a wide range of skills in a remote and rural setting.
• Ability to work autonomously and adaptively without a hospital resource.
• Non medical prescribing qualification is essential.

Location, Working Pattern and Contract Duration

• Location: Hoy GP Practice
• Working pattern: Full Time, 36 hours per week
• Contract: Fixed Term until 25 January 2027
• Candidate must be a resident of the UK.

Benefits and Salary

Salary: Band 6. If residing on Orkney, a Distant Islands Allowance of £1,719 pro rata per annum is added.
