Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Irrigation Specialist / Manager to take responsibility for the planning, operation, and maintenance of irrigation systems across a mixed farming business. The role will ensure efficient water use, healthy crop growth, and compliance with environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage irrigation systems for soft fruit, vegetables, and cereals.
- Plan irrigation schedules using soil moisture data, crop needs, and weather forecasts.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair pumps, filters, and irrigation equipment.
- Monitor water usage and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Work closely with the farm team to support crop production.
- Train and supervise staff in irrigation practices.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience managing irrigation on a commercial farm.
- Strong technical knowledge of pumps, pipes, and irrigation control systems.
- Ability to analyse data and adapt irrigation schedules.
- Good problem-solving and maintenance skills.
- Organised, reliable, and able to lead a small team.
Desirable:
- Agricultural or technical qualification.
- Experience with automated or sensor-based irrigation systems.
- Knowledge of sustainable water management.
